Grove City earns win No. 500

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its 500th all-time victory Saturday afternoon by rolling past visiting Waynesburg, 2-0, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field.

Grove City (5-7, 2-1 PAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes when sophomore Jonathan Rothgeb (State College, Pa./Homeschooled) scored his second goal of the season at 9:59. Freshman Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) assisted the goal.

The Wolverines maintained their one-goal lead until late in the second half when junior forward Kyle Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) scored an unassisted goal at 83:31. It is Matherne's first goal of 2012.

Grove City held a 27-2 edge in shots, along with a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) recorded his second shutout in conference play by making one save.

Grove City is now 500-331-73 (.593) since the program began in 1938.

The Wolverines conclude a four-match homestand Tuesday at 4 p.m. against conference foe Thiel.
