Wolverines blank Westminster; earn tourney berth

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team clinched the fourth and final berth in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament by earning a 1-0 win over visiting Westminster Saturday afternoon in conference action at College Field. Grove City concludes the regular season with a 5-2-1 conference record.

The Wolverines broke through at 17:59 when freshman forward Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored an unassisted goal. Loew leads the Wolverines with six goals this year.

Defensively, the Wolverines limited Westminster (11-5-2, 5-2-1 PAC) to just four shots overall and only one shot on goal. Grove City (8-9-1 overall) owned an 18-4 edge in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) sealed Grove City's seventh shutout of the season by making one save.

Grove City will play a conference tournament semifinal Tuesday. Grove City could enter the tournament as the first, second or third seed.
