Grove City inducting two into Soccer Hall of Fame
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College will induct two former standouts into its Menís Soccer Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend September 22. Christos Takoudes '60 and Paul Fletcher '66 comprise the 12th class of inductees. Their induction brings the total number of inductees to 31.
Takoudes earned three letters for Grove City from 1957 to 1959. He began his career at forward before moving to right wing. During those three seasons, Takoudes emerged as one of the Wolverines' top offensive threats. Grove City went 15-9-1 in his three seasons, concluding a decade of Grove City excellence that featured no losing seasons.
Fletcher lettered in each of his four seasons from 1962 to 1965. He co-captained the 1965 team that went 8-0-1 and earned an invitation to the NCAA Championship Tournament. As a senior, he finished fourth on the team with five goals and earned All-Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Delaware recognition at right halfback.
During his career, the Wolverines went 29-7-2, including a 17-0-1 mark his last two seasons. Fletcher played in all 38 matches in those four seasons and helped the 1962 team earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 1964 team went 9-0, including a victory over the University of Pittsburgh.
Grove City established its Menís Soccer Hall of Fame in 2001. The honorees will be introduced and recognized before the annual Hall of Fame Game September 22, which features alumni against current varsity players.
