Allegheny edges Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened the 2013 home schedule Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 setback against visiting Allegheny (2-0-1) at College Field.
Allegheny broke a scoreless tie at 10:13 when Daniel Szekely scored an unassisted goal after a Grove City turnover in the defensive end.
Grove City outshot the Gators 15-5, including a 7-1 edge in the second half. Grove City (0-2-1) also had an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, sophomore Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) stopped three shots for the Wolverines. John Lichina stopped six shots for Allegheny.
Grove City will visit Hilbert Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at 1 p.m.
