Wolverines roll past Hilbert
HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Sophomore Seth Loew (Center Valley,
Pa./Southern Lehigh) notched his first career hat
trick and the Grove City College men’s soccer team found its offense en route to
a 6-1 non-conference road victory over Hilbert on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman David Wurmlinger (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle
Vernon) scored the first two goals of
his college career for the Wolverines while junior Jordan Carmichael (West
Milford, N.J./West Milford) added his first
goal of the season.
Carmichael got things going for Grove City in the 20th
minute when he finished a pass from Loew to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
In the 31st minute, Wurmlinger took a ball
from freshman Dale Reese (Rocky Hill, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) and finished to extend Grove City’s lead to 2-0. For Reese, it
was his first collegiate assist.
Wurmlinger scored his second goal just under four minutes
into the second half on an unassisted goal.
Loew took it from there, scoring on a penalty kick in the
56th minute to push the lead to 4-0.
After Hilbert’s Jonathan Davison scored in the 67th minute to
cut the deficit to 4-1, Loew scored an unassisted goal in the 83rd
minute and headed in a cross from Reese in the 87th minute.
