Reese goals lead Grove City past Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Freshman Dale Reese (Rocky Hill, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) scored twice in the final 11 minutes as the Grove City College men's soccer team pulled away for a 2-0 victory at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel on Tuesday evening.

Despite outshooting Thiel (5-7, 0-2 PAC) 25-5 overall, including 14-1 on goal, and holding a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks, the Wolverines found themselves locked in a scoreless draw through the first 79 minutes of action.

Grove City finally broke through in the 80th minute when junior Jordan Carmichael (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) found Reese for what would prove to be the game-winner on a cross from the 10-yard line to give the Wolverines (4-5-2, 1-1) a 1-0 lead. Reese added his second goal just over seven minutes later, collecting a rebound and sending home the insurance goal in the 88th minute.

The goals were the second and third of the year for Reese while Carmichael notched his first assist.

Sophomore Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) stopped one shot in goal to help the Grove City defense post its third shutout of the season.

The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, hosting Bethany in PAC action at 3:30 p.m.
