Grove City battles W&J to draw

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team held a 14-8 advantage in total shots but defense prevailed on this day as the Wolverines battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Washington & Jefferson on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

Grove City (6-5-3, 3-1-1 PAC) controlled possession for much of regulation, owning a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 7-3 lead in shots on goal over the first 90 minutes.

The Wolverines nearly took the lead in the 84th minute when W&J goalkeeper Jon Best came out of goal but junior Jordan Carmichael's (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) shot rolled just outside the far post of the goal.

The Presidents nearly ended the game in the 97th minute but Cody Peddicord's shot hit the right post and the Wolverine defense was able to clear.

Sophomore Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) posted five saves in goal as the Wolverine defense produced its fitfh shutout of the season.

Today's match was the eighth overtime match for Grove City this season.

The Wolverines travel to Point Park on Tuesday for a 5:00 non-conference match.
