Wolverines humble Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 5-2-1 overall Saturday afternoon by earning a 2-0 non-conference victory at Heidelberg (3-3-2).

After a scoreless first half, Grove City broke through with a pair of goals in the second half. Sophomore defender Frank Hueber (Philadelphia, Pa./Calvary Christian) broke the scoreless tie at 51:52 by scoring his first goal of the season. Junior forward Tim Shackleton (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) assisted Hueber's goal.

The Wolverines then pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 73:10 mark as sophomore midfielder Stephen Betteridge (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) recorded an unassisted goal, his second score of the season.

In goal, junior Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) recorded his second straight shutout as he made two saves. Heidelberg held a 19-14 edge in total shots, along with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Grove City has now won three straight matches. The Wolverines' 5-2-1 start is the team's best record after eight matches since the 2003 team also opened 5-2-1.

The Wolverines will host Carnegie Mellon next Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.
