Wolverines stumble at Thomas More
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team fell at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thomas More 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Bank of Kentucky Field.
Sophomore David Wurmlinger (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) netted his fourth goal of the season for the Wolverines (11-6-1, 6-2 PAC) late in the first half following three first-half scores by the Saints (15-2-1, 7-0-1). Thomas More would add its fourth goal just 11 minutes into the second frame to close the scoring.
Junior goalkeeper Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) made two saves in net in 55:54 while freshman Malcolm Blake (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) made one save while playing the final 34:06.
With the loss, Grove City will be the #2-seed in this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will host #3-seed Waynesburg (9-6-4, 5-2-1) Tuesday at 2 p.m. in one semifinal while top-seed Thomas More will host Geneva (10-5-3, 5-2-1) at that same time.
