Grove City whips Allegheny in season lidlifter
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened the 2015 season Tuesday afternoon by rolling to a 4-0 home victory over longtime rival Allegheny at College Field. Grove City (1-0) scored twice in the first half before doubling its lead with a pair of goals over the final 45 minutes.
The Wolverines broke through at 38:51 when freshman Franklin Tropiano (Hillsdale, Mich./Hillsdale Academy) scored his first collegiate goal after senior Justin Phillips (Simi Valley, Calif./Oaks Christian) deflected a corner kick to him.
Grove City's lead grew to 2-0 at 43:13 as Allegheny deflected the ball into its own goal during a Wolverine attack.
Senior forward Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) recorded the Wolverines' third goal of the afternoon at 68:26 following an assist from freshman forward Nate Curry (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York). Curry recorded his second assist of the match at 74:17 when assisted a goal by fellow freshman Jon Burton (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian).
