Wolverines edge Arcadia in ECAC opener

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at fourth-seeded Arcadia in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Championship Tournament. The fifth-seeded Wolverines will now play at No. 1 seed Penn State Behrend in the semifinals.

Grove City (12-6-1) broke a 1-1 tie at 82:55 when junior midfielder Frank Hueber (Philadelphia, Pa./Calvary Christian) blasted in an unassisted goal from approximately 30 yards away. It is Hueber's first game-winning goal of the season and his second overall score in 2015.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 10:34 when sophomore midfielder Blake Baer (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) headed in a corner kick from senior Tim Shackleton (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley). Shackleton leads the Wolverines with eight assists this season.

Arcadia (11-7-3) tied the match in the second half when Bradley McKim scored his 16th goal of the season at the 70:23 mark. David Colombo assisted McKim's score.

The Wolverines outshot Arcadia, 21-15, while Arcadia held a 10-6 edge in corner kicks. For Grove City, senior goalkeeper Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) stopped two shots. Arcadia goalkeeper Chris Watson recorded 13 saves.

Grove City will be making its first trip to the ECAC semifinals since 2010, when the Wolverines reached the tournament finals. Penn State Behrend defeated Grove City, 1-0, September 9 in Erie, Pa.

The date and time for the Grove City-Behrend semifinal match has not been determined.
