Grove City falls in ECAC semifinals

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision Friday evening at top-seeded Penn State Behrend in the semifinal round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Championship Tournament.

Grove City (12-7-1) forged a 1-1 tie at 49:58 when senior forward Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored his 18th goal of the season. Junior Dale Reese (Rocky Hill, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) and sophomore Blake Baer (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) assisted Loew's score.

Behrend pulled ahead for good at 66:48 when Anthony Crivelli scored his second goal of the match. Crivelli gave the Lions (17-2-2) a 1-0 lead by scoring at the 7:37 mark.

Grove City outshot the Lions 14-9, including a 9-3 edge in the second half. Each team had five corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) saved four shots for the Wolverines.

Loew finishes his career with 108 points, the second-highest total in program history.

Grove City will lose Loew, Weaver, senior defender Jake Botzenhart (Waxhaw, N.C./Parkwood), senior midfielder Jonathan Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), senior defender Justin Phillips (Simi Valley, Calif./Oaks Christian) and senior Tim Shackleton (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) to graduation.
