Grove City inducting two into Soccer Hall of Fame

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College will induct two men into its Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend September 26. George Ramsey '49 and Larry Eckert '77 comprise the 15th class of inductees. Their induction brings the total number of inductees to 38.

Both Ramsey and Eckert played pivotal roles on two of the most-decorated teams in program history. Ramsey earned four letters while playing outside right from 1945 to 1948. As a senior in 1948, Ramsey's leadership and abilities helped Grove City post a 5-0-3 record, the first undefeated team in program history. He scored four goals that season after being one of the team's top assist men in 1946 and 1947.

Grove City compiled a 15-7-7 overall record during Ramsey's career.

Eckert captained the 1976 Grove City team that advanced to the national quarterfinals in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. A four-year letterman at midfielder, Eckert helped the Wolverines set a new single-season program record with 10 victories that season. The Wolverines finished 10-3-1, including a victory over top-seeded Lynchburg in the NCAA Tournament.

As a junior, Eckert earned the Bill Buchanan Junior of the Year award from his teammates. The Wolverines amassed 28 wins during his four years, including a 17-8-2 mark over Eckert's junior and senior seasons.

Grove City established its Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame in 2001. The honorees will be introduced and recognized before the annual Hall of Fame Game September 26, which features alumni against current varsity players.
