Wolverines sprint into third at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, PA, November 9, 2001--Junior Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) swam away with two first-place finishes and a second as Grove City College placed third at the four-school Allegheny College Sprint Invitational on Friday.

The College of Wooster (322.5) won the meet, slipping past SUNY-Geneseo (320.0).  Grove City (309.5) finished just 13 points off the lead, while Allegheny (293.0) took fourth.

Young won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.71 and joined freshman Felix Mason (Charlotte, NC), sophomore Drew Martin (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) and sophomore Matt Gibson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) on the winning 200 medley relay team, which clocked a 1:41.93.  Young also placed second in the 100 freestyle in 50.41.

Mason added a fourth-place swim in the 200 individual medley (2:07.26), a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.75) and a sixth-place showing in the 100 butterfly (59.54).  Sophomore Drew McKelvy (Portersville, PA/Jubilee Christian) took fourth in the 100 free (50.73) and teamed with Gibson, Young and senior Chris Treter (Cranberry Twp., PA/Seneca Valley) for second place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.21).
