Wolverines win pair in Buckhannon

BUCKHANNON, WV, November 16, 2001--Sophomore Drew Martin (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) sprinted to first-place finishes in the 50- (22.50) and 100-yard freestyle (49.91) as the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-1 on the season Friday with victories over host West Virginia Wesleyan and Frostburg State.

The Wolverines had to rally to beat both schools.  They took their first lead over Frostburg after the 100 freestyle en route to a 57-37 triumph and went ahead for good against West Virginia Wesleyan after the 200 butterfly and won, 55-40.

Martin's winning freestyle times earned him first-place points against both West Virginia Wesleyan and Frostburg, while sophomore Rich Korb (Belcamp, MD/John Carroll) won outright in the 500 freestyle, touching first in 5:08.10.  The Wolverines also topped both foes in the 400 freestyle relay as sophomore Drew McKelvy (Portersville, PA/Jubilee Christian), sophomore Darin Vermillion (Renton, WA), senior Chris Treter (Cranberry Twp., PA/Seneca Valley) and junior Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) won with a time of 3:25.09.

Also posting wins against Frostburg were sophomore Justin Huff (Waterloo, IL/St. John Vianney) in the 1000 freestyle (10:57.44) and freshman Felix Mason (Charlotte, NC) in the 200 individual medley (2:07.77).   

Freshman Matt Trollinger (Damascus, MD/Damascus) contributed a first-place swim in the 200 fly (2:17.69) against West Virgnia Wesleyan.
