Wolverines win pair, meet W&J Saturday

ALLIANCE, OH, January 18, 2002--The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team extended its winning streak to three and improved to 5-3 on the season Friday with victories over Penn State Behrend, 63-45, and host Mount Union, 58-50, in Alliance, OH.

Freshman diver Greg Sies (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) won both diving events, beating the NCAA Division III 11-dive championship list qualifier on the one-meter board with a score of 439.20. 

Sophomore Matt Gibson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) won the 100 freestyle against both schools and took the 50 free against Penn State Behrend with sophomore Drew Martin (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) completing a 1-2 in the 50 against the Lions.  Sophomore Drew McKelvy (Portersville, PA/Jubilee Christian) and senior Chris Treter (Cranberry, PA/Seneca Valley) finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, respectively, while sophomore Rich Korb (Belcamp, MD/John Carroll) placed first in the 1,000 freestyle.

Grove City set the tone of the meet early by winning the opening relay with the team of junior Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler), freshman Felix Mason (Charlotte, NC), Martin and sophomore Darin Vermillion (Renton, WA). 

Grove City will host its Hall of Fame Meet on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Washington & Jefferson.  Jay D'Ambrosio '94, Doug Fullerton '97, Major Robert Etter '51 and Coach Jim Longnecker are this year's inductees.
