Wolverines post fourth win in four days

MEET RESULTS

GROVE CITY, PA, January 19, 2002--Not only did it survive one of the busiest weeks in the program's history, but the Grove City men's swimming and diving team fared quite well.

The Wolverines defeated arch-rival Washington & Jefferson, 139.5-96.5, on Saturday, polishing off a 4-1 week which upped their season mark to 6-3 overall.  Saturday's win came at the Hall of Fame Meet, which is held every other year when the Presidents visit Grove City's College Pool.

Five different Wolverines won individual events as sophomore Rich Korb (Belcamp, MD/John Carroll) touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.29), sophomore Drew Martin (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) took the 50 free (22.42), freshman Matt Mangen (Celina, OH/Celina) won the 200 individual medley (2:05.81), freshman Greg Sies (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) placed first on the one-meter (269.40) and three-meter (294.45) boards and junior Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) won the 200 backstroke (1:59.54).

Grove City also collected first-place points in both relays with Young, sophomore Tom Carey (Fairview Park, OH/St. Edward), Martin and sophomore Matt Gibson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) winning the 400 medley relay (3:46.70) and senior Chris Treter (Cranberry Twp., PA/Seneca Valley), Young, sophomore Drew McKelvy (Portersville, PA/Jubilee Christian) and sophomore Darin Vermillion (Renton, WA) taking the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.64).

The Wolverines have rolled off four straight wins since opening the week with a loss at Washington & Lee on Monday.  They defeated Bethany at home on Wednesday and downed Mount Union and Penn State Behrend in Alliance, OH on Friday.
