Wolverine swimmers win fifth straight
GROVE CITY, PA, February 2, 2002--The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team posted the best time in both relays and added six more top marks in a 102-80 victory over visiting Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday afternoon at the College Pool.
The victory marked the Wolverines' fifth in a row and improved their overall record to 7-3.
Grove City opened the meet with the team of junior Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler), sophomore Tom Carey (Fairview Park, OH/St. Edwards), sophomore Drew Martin (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) and sophomore Matt Gibson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:42.13. Young, Gibson, Martin and sophomore Drew McKelvy (Portersville, PA/Jubilee Christian) closed the meet with the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:30.36.
Six different Wolverines posted the top time in individual events: sophomore Rich Korb (Belcamp, MD/John Carroll) claimed first place in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:24.89; McKelvy won the 200 free in 1:49.27; Martin sprinted to first place in the 50 free in 25.86; Young won the 100 butterfly in 56.72; freshman Matt Mangen (Celina, OH/Celina) touched first in the 100 backstroke in 58.91; and freshman Felix Mason (Charlotte, NC) had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.07.
Baldwin-Wallace dropped to 4-9 overall.
