Wolverines sweep WVWC, Frostburg State

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) won the 500 and 1000 freestyle races to help the Grove City College men's swim team (2-1) sweep West Virginia Wesleyan and Frostburg State in a double-dual meet Saturday afternoon. Grove City downed WVWC, 60-40, and downed Frostburg, 56-52.

Korb won the 500 in 5:03.46, then won the 1000 in 10:28.23. Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) won the overall 200 free race in 1:51.76 while Bob Young (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler), Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) and Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) combined for a win in the 400 medley relay (3:45.38).

Gilbert picked up a victory in the 50-yard freestyle against West Virginia Wesleyan in 22.93 seconds while Gibson earned second in 23.03 seconds. McKelvy also won the 100 freestyle against Wesleyan (51.22) while Ryan McCracken (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) claimed runner-up honors in the 100 free. Young earned first-place honors against Frostburg State in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.53 while Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) placed second.

Also for the Wolverines, Gilbert won the 200 breaststroke against West Virginia Wesleyan while Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) took second to Gilbert.

The wins are the first at Grove City for first-year head coach Dave Fritz.
