Wolverine men 2nd after first night of invite
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Led by a third-place finish from Bob Young (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) in the 200 backstroke, the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first night of competition at the sixth annual James E. Longnecker Invitational at the Grove City College Pool.
The Wolverine men earned 168 points in the first night, trailing only Carnegie Mellon (256) in the nine-team field.
Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) collected a fourth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle while Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) took fourth in the 200 breaststroke. Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) placed fifth in the 100 freestyle while Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) took seventh.
Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) finished eighth in the 200 backstroke and Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) took eighth place in the 200 breaststroke.
Gilbert, Korb, McKelvy and Young also combined to help Grove City earn third place in the 400 free relay.
