Grove City rolls past Washington and Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Bob Young (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) each recorded three victories Saturday as the Grove City College men's swim team (5-1, 2-0 PAC) downed host Washington and Jefferson 131.5-99.5 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

Young won the 200 backstroke in 2:04.33 and participated in a pair of victorious relay efforts. Young joined Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) and Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) on the Wolverines' winning 400 medley relay, which posted a time of 3:16.70. Young, McKelvy, Ryan McCracken (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) and Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) combined for a winning 3:23.90 clocking in the 400 freestyle relay.

McKelvy won the 100 free in 50.79 seconds and took the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:51.37.

Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 individual medley, winning the event in 2:08.38. Gilbert took second while Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) placed third. Gilbert won the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.04 while Mason placed second. 

Also for Grove City, Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) took second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events while Mason, Boerckel, Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) and Jeremiah Roberts (Butler, Pa./Knoch) finished second in the 400 medley relay.
