Grove City takes second in PAC meet, GCC Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team finished second at the Grove City College Invitational and Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, earning 640.5 total points. Westminster won the event with 698 points. 

A number of top-three finishes allowed Grove City to hold off conference rival Washington and Jefferson for second place. Bob Young (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) took second in the 100 free in 48.45 seconds while Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) finished as runner-up in the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.76. Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll), who won the 500 and 1000 free races, finished second in the 1650 in a time of 16:59.43.

Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:03.12) and Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) grabbed fourth in the 3-meter diving competition.

Also for the Wolverine men, Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) finished sixth in the 200 butterfly while Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) claimed sixth place in the 100 free. Jeremy Roberts (Butler, Pa./Knoch) earned a sixth-place finish in the 1650 while Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) came home seventh in the 200 breaststroke. 

Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) finished eighth in the 200 butterfly.

Grove City's 400 free relay quartet of Young, Gilbert, Gibson and Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) closed the three-day event by finishing second with a time of 3:14.01.
