Wolverines pick up two wins at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned a pair of victories Saturday at Frostburg State University in a double-dual meet, downing the hosts 131-94 and West Virginia Wesleyan, 128-94.

Senior Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) led Grove City (2-1) with a pair of wins as McKelvy won the 100 (55.21) and 200 free (2:02.71). Meanwhile, sophomore diver Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) won the 1-meter diving competition.

Numerous Grove City swimmers also picked up runner-up finishes. Senior Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took second in the 50 free (25.82) while junior Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.63.

Also for the Wolverines, freshman Jason Amos (Westminster, Md./Carroll Christian) took second in the 200 free (2:05.38) while classmate Jeff Wenger (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) earned second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.62).

Sophomore Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.76) and freshman Luke Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) placed second in the 400 free (4:34.08).
