Wolverines roll Behrend, clinch 53rd straight winning season
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team secured its 53rd consecutive winning season Wednesday night by picking up a 111-72 victory over Penn State Behrend at Grove City College Pool.
The Wolverines improved to 5-3 with the victory and will close the dual-meet season Saturday at home against Wooster.
Seven different Grove City swimmers earned individual victories Wednesday night. Senior Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) won the 1000 in 10:37.29 while frosh John Newell (Butler, Pa./Butler) took first in the 200 free (1:51.93). Senior Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) rang up a win in the 50 free (23.18) while junior Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) won the 400 individual medley in 4:30.82.
Also for Grove City, sophomore Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) won the 200 butterfly in 2:09.72 while freshman Luke Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) won the 100 free in 51.91 seconds. Sophomore diver Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) won 1-meter diving.
Mason, Newell, sophomore Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and Jeff Wenger (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:57.38.
