Korb, McKelvy help Grove City take first-night lead 

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Led by victories from seniors Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) and Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian), the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned 212 team points to claim the early lead at the Grove City College Invitational and Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Thursday night.

Westminster is in second with 193 points while Washington and Jefferson is third at 172.

Korb won the 500 free in 4:47.79 after entering the finals as the fourth seed. McKelvy, meanwhile, took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.45. McKelvy finished two spots ahead of junior teammate Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled), who posted a time of 2:02.45. 

Also for Grove City, senior Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) claimed fifth in the 50 free while sophomore diver Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) placed third in 3-meter diving. 

Both of Grove City's relay teams earned second-place finishes Thursday night. Grove City opened the meet by earning runner-up honors in the 200 free relay as McKelvy, Jeff Wenger (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) and Gibson recorded a time of 1:28.70.

In the night's final event, the 400 medley relay, the combination of Gibson, Ziders, Mason and sophomore Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) took second in a time of 3:40.59.

Preliminary action begins at 10 a.m. Friday. The finals begin at 6 p.m.
