Wolverines extend lead to 54 points 

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team is in first place at the Grove City College Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships after two days of action at Grove City College Pool.

After owning a 19-point lead entering Friday's action, the Wolverines will take a 54-point lead into Saturday's competition. Grove City leads with 533 team points while defending PAC champion Westminster is second at 479.

One day after winning the 500 free, senior Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) captured first in the 1000 in 10:08.15. He also helped Grove City's 800 freestyle relay squad close the evening with a second-place finish in that event, turning in a time of 7:14.24.

Junior Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) won the 400 individual medley in 4:18.21, finishing two places ahead of sophomore Jeremiah Roberts (Butler, Pa./Knoch). Roberts finished with a time of 4:28.78.  

Sophomore backstroker Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) earned runner-up in the 100 backstroke in 55.33 while senior Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) placed third in the 200 free (1:47.23).

Freshman Luke Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) took third in the 1000 (10:23.66) while sophomore Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Moon) placed fourth in the 100 fly. Freshman Jeff Wenger (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and junior Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) followed Ziders in fifth and sixth, respectively. 

Wenger also took fifth in the 100 breaststroke while freshman John Newell (Butler, Pa./Butler) placed with in the 200 free. Boerckel, Mason, Ziders and McKelvy opened Friday night's finals by placing second in the 200 medley relay with a 1:40.17 while McKelvy, Newell, Korb and senior Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) closed the night with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay.

Saturday's preliminaries start at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
