Grove City wins 12th PAC Championship 

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team secured its 12th Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Saturday night at the PAC Championships and Grove City College Invitational at the Grove City College Pool.

The Wolverines amassed 799 team points, unseating 2003 PAC champ Westminster (716 points). Washington and Jefferson took third with 601.

It is Grove City's first conference title since 2001.

Senior Rich Korb (Belcamp, Md./John Carroll) shared the Invitational's High Point Award with Westminster's Ryan Trunk. Korb capped his stellar weekend by winning the 1650 in a time of 16:56.59. He also won the 500 and 1000 during the three-day event.

Korb also helped Grove City clinch the meet with a second-place finish in the meet-ending 400 free relay. Korb joined seniors Drew McKelvy (Portersville, Pa./Jubilee Christian) and Matt Gibson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and freshman John Newell (Butler, Pa./Butler) on the 400 free relay team. That quartet posted a time of 3:14.60.

Junior Felix Mason (Charlotte, N.C./Homeschooled) finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.83) while sophomore Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) took third in the 200 backstroke (2:01.63). Junior Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) placed third in the 200 butterfly, one spot ahead of sophomore Matt Ziders (Moon Township, Pa./Moon). 

Sophomore diver Mike Shantz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) earned third in 1-meter diving.

McKelvy finished fourth in the 100 free while Newell placed fourth in the 1650. Freshman Luke Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) took fifth in the 1650 while classmate Jason Amos (Westminster, Md./Carroll Christian) was fifth in the 200 backstroke.

Gibson earned fifth place in the 100 free while junior Jason Simon (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) claimed sixth place in the 200 breaststroke.

Head coach Dave Fritz earned the Presidents' Athletic Conference's Men's Coach of the Year award and also received the Invitational's Men's Coach of the Year honor.

Grove City closes the season next Saturday at the Case Western Reserve Last Chance Meet.
