CMU defeats Grove City in dual-meet opener

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team dropped a 126-99 decision to national powerhouse Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon in the Wolverines' dual-meet opener.

Freshman Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) earned Grove City's lone swimming victory, winning the 100 free in 46.83 seconds. Courage also claimed second in the 200 free in 1:45.35 while junior Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) took second in the 200 back in 2:08.18.

Freshman diver Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) won the 1-meter competition with 187.42 points while classmate Chris Scharf (Springville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith) took second with 159.67. Junior Mike Shantz (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) won the 3-meter competition with 130.73.

Grove City (0-1) will host Frostburg State Friday night in a dual meet.
