Grove City wins PAC opener

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team picked up a 135-90 victory over host Bethany Tuesday night in the Wolverines' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Hummel Field House.

Six different swimmers earned wins for Grove City (2-1, 1-0 PAC) on the evening. Freshman Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) earned two victories, claiming both the 500 (5:01.75) and the 1000 (11:53.26) while junior Joel Boerckel (East Moline, Ill./United Township) contributed to a pair of victories.

Boerckel won the 100 backstroke in 58.20 seconds and joined junior Eli Scott (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center), sophomore Jeff Wenger (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and sophomore John Newell (Butler, Pa./Butler) on Grove City's victorious 200 medley relay team. That foursome turned in a time of 1:47.48.

Senior Matt Trollinger (Damascus, Md./New Life Christian) took top honors in the 200 free (1:53.95) while sophomore Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) won the 50 free in 23.46 seconds. Frosh Jeremy Harbaugh (South Park, Pa./South Park) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.94 while sophomore Luke Wiedeman (Beltsville, Md./Cedar Brook) won the 100 free in 52.43.

Grove City will host Hiram Saturday at 1 p.m.
