Grove City finishes 13th nationally

MINNEAPOLIS -- Led by a national title in the 100 freestyle from sophomore Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg), the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team finished 13th nationally with 77.5 team points at the 2006 NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Carleton College.

It is Grove City's best finish at the NCAA Championships since the 1984 squad placed 12th.

Courage became the first Grove City men's swimmer to capture a national title Saturday night as he won the 100 freestyle in a College-record time of 44.51 seconds. Courage entered the finals as the top seed after posting a time of 44.84 seconds in the preliminaries.

Courage, senior Ben Haring (Kenai, Alaska/Kenai Central), freshman Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) closed the meet by finishing 15th in the 400 free relay (3:09.07).
