Grove City opens season with win

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team opened the 2005-2006 season with a 119-85 victory over NCAA Division I Canisius Friday night at Youngstown State University.

Six different Wolverine swimmers earned victories. Sophomore NCAA All-American Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) won both the 100 (47.06 seconds) and 200 free (1:45.86) races while fellow All-American Ben Haring (Kenai, Alaska/Kenai Central) won the 50 free in 21.82.

Freshman Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) made his collegiate debut by winning the 100 butterfly in 55.34 seconds while classmate Mark Barron (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) debuted with a win in the 1000 (10:26.32).

Junior Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) won the 200 individual medley in 2:07.08 while sophomore diver Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) won the 1-meter competition with 185.10 points.

Grove City will compete in the Allegheny Distance Invitational next Saturday at 9 a.m.
