Wolverines top Butler
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team opened the dual-meet portion of its 2006-07 schedule Friday night with a 132-108 victory over NCAA Division I Butler University (Ind.) at Youngstown State's Beeghly Natatorium.
Senior Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and junior Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) each posted two victories for Grove City (1-0). Gilbert swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1 minute, 1.61 seconds. He then captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.68.
Courage won the 100 free in 47.34 and also took top honors in the 200 free (1:47.36). Courage, Gilbert, sophomore Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) and junior Nick Barker (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:39.91.
Whitbeck won the 50 free in 21.34 seconds while Barker took the 200 butterfly in 2:02.63. Freshman Chip Cressman (Marriottsville, Md./Homeschooled) won the 1000 in 10:03.82.
Grove City will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 11 at powerhouse Carnegie Mellon.
