Carnegie Mellon tops Grove City in dual

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team fell to 1-1 overall in dual-meet competition this season Saturday afternoon, dropping a 168-128 decision to host Carnegie Mellon in non-conference action.

Grove City captured seven of 14 individual races. Freshman Chip Cressman (Marriottsville, Md./Homeschooled) earned three victories for Grove City. Cressman won the 1000 in 10 minutes, 0.57 seconds. He also captured the 500 (4:50.99) and the 400 individual medley (4:17.85) for Grove City.

Junior Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) helped lead Grove City's sweep of the sprints by winning the 100 and 200 free races. Courage won the 200 in 1:45.15, then won the 100 in 46.68.

In the 50 free, sophomore Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a victorious time of 21.17 seconds.

Junior Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) won 1-meter diving with 234.95 total points.

Grove City will host Frostburg State and Saint Vincent in a double-dual Friday night at 6 p.m.
