Wolverines top Gannon
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team secured its 499th all-time victory Monday night, topping NCAA Division II Gannon, 161-127, in the Grove City College Pool.
Senior Andrew Gilbert (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), junior Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and freshman Chip Cressman (Marriottsville, Md./Homeschooled) all earned a pair of individual victories for Grove City (7-1). Gilbert swept the breaststroke races, winning the 100 in 60.21 seconds. He then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.79.
Courage won both the 50 (20.81) and 100 (46.57) free races while Cressman captured the 200 free (1:48.27) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.41). Courage's time in the 50 free surpasses the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard.
Junior Jeremy Harbaugh (South Park, Pa./South Park) won the 500 in 5:02.25 while sophomore Mark Barron (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) won the 1000 in a time of 10:15.68, giving Grove City a sweep of the distance races.
Cressman, Courage, Gilbert and sophomore Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:34.62. Cressman, Barron, Courage and sophomore Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) closed the meet by winning the 800 free relay in 7:15.27.
Grove City is now 17-0 all-time against Gannon. The Wolverines will host the annual James E. Longnecker Invitational Dec. 1-2.
