Grove City earns No. 500
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned the program's 500th all-time victory Wednesday night as the Wolverines (8-1, 1-0 PAC) earned a 90-79 win over host Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Hummel Field House.
In 65 years of intercollegiate competition, Grove City is now 500-221-1 (.693). The Wolverines are also closing in on their 56th consecutive winning season.
Five different Wolverines earned individual victories Wednesday night. Senior Jason Amos (Westminster, Md./Carroll Christian) won the 200 free in 1 minute, 56.63 seconds while sophomore Caleb Kramer (Ankeny, Iowa/Homeschooled) won the 1000 in 11:09.81.
Sophomore Ben Leach (Damascus, Md./Damascus) won the 50 in 24.07 seconds while freshman Seth Zimmerman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) won the 100 free in 52.28. Freshman Tucker Gregg (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.98.
Gregg, sophomore Nate Brunk (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham), freshman Matt Green (Avon, N.Y./Avon) and freshman Andrew Ashleigh (Rutledge, Pa./Strath Haven) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:50.30.
Grove City will host Hiram Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in a non-conference meet. The Wolverines can clinch their 56th straight winning season with a victory. Grove City will also recognize its 2006 NCAA Division III All-Americans during Saturday's meet.
