CMU tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team opened the dual-meet portion of the 2007-08 schedule Saturday afternoon with a 171-128 setback against longtime rival Carnegie Mellon at the Grove City College Pool.

The Wolverines recorded six total victories Saturday, including a sweep of the diving events. Sophomore Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow) won one-meter diving with 225.10 points while senior Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) took three-meter diving with 204.85 points.

On the swimming side, two Grove City juniors each recorded two wins. Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) won both the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Larsen won the 100 fly in 53.18 seconds, then posted a victorious time of 2:01.37 in the 200 IM. Classmate Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) won the 50 free in 20.79 seconds and the 100 in 48.24.

Grove City will visit Saint Vincent Friday night at 6 p.m.
