Grove City sweeps Quad Meet

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 4-1 this season by sweeping Case Western Reserve, Kenyon and Washington & Jefferson in the Grove City Quad Meet Saturday afternoon in the Grove City College Pool.

Grove City topped Case Western Reserve, 156-134. The Wolverines also downed Kenyon, 171-121, and W&J by a 200-92 score.

Junior Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) earned a pair of individual victories Saturday. Whitbeck won the 50 free in 20.93 seconds, then added a win in the 100 free (47.66).

Whitbeck, freshman Dan Wells (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland), junior Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) and junior Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:26.98.

Grove City also swept the diving events Saturday. Senior Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) won 1-meter diving with 231.10 points while sophomore Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) accumulated 215.00 points to win 3-meter diving. Grubbs (227.75) also took second on the 1-meter board while Riddell earned second place in 3-meter diving with 202.20 points.

Peter Larsen took second in the 200 free (1:46.35) while sophomore Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.44. Whitbeck, the Larsen brothers and freshman Cam Coppelli (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) opened the meet by finishing second in the 200 medley relay (1:38.17).

Coppelli took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.81 while Lincoln Larsen took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.79). Sophomore Rich Albertson (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) took third in the 200 butterfly (2:16.44) while senior Jeremy Harbaugh (South Park, Pa./South Park) placed third in the 1000 (10:31.29).

Grove City will visit Allegheny Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in a non-conference dual meet.
