Wolverines top Bethany

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 6-1 overall Wednesday night with a 137-46 win over visiting Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Pool. Grove City is now 1-0 in the conference.

Freshman Nate Nielsen (Houston, Texas/Lutheran South) and sophomore Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) both picked up a pair of wins for the Wolverines. Nielsen won the 100 free in 50.49 seconds and also captured the 200 free in 1:52.19. Larsen, meanwhile, won the 200 breaststroke (2:17.41) and 200 individual medley (2:09.98).

Ten other Grove City athletes earned wins Wednesday. Junior Caleb Kramer (Ankeny, Iowa/Homeschooled) won the 1000 in 11:16.65 while junior Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) won the 100 back (55.02). Freshman Matt Leonard (Lake City, Fla./Homeschooled) touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.32) while sophomore Rich Albertson (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) claimed victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.94.

Senior Tyler May (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) won the 50 (23.35). Freshman Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) won the 200 back (2:00.16) while classmate Chris Marasco (Washington, Pa./Washington) posted a time of 5:18.20 in winning the 500. Junior Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) won the 100 butterfly in a time of 53.97 seconds.

Leach, Peter Larsen, freshman Bennett Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and senior Jeremy Harbaugh (South Park, Pa./South Park) closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:23.37.

Grove City also swept the diving events. Sophomore Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) won 1-meter diving with 238.20 points while senior Joe Riddell (Osny, France/Paul-Emil Victor) won 3-meter diving with 224.85 points.

Grove City visits Hiram Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference dual meet.
