Grove City sweeps Case Western Quad

CLEVELAND -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 5-1 overall Saturday by sweeping three foes in the Case Western Reserve Quad Meet. Grove City earned a 174-121 win over Case Western. The Wolverines also downed Kenyon, 216.5-62.5, and Washington & Jefferson, 206-92. The Wolverines have now won five straight.

Senior Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) paced Grove City with three individual victories Saturday. He set a new Grove City record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 53.73 seconds. Courage also won the 200 free (1:41.97) and the 100 free in 45.36 seconds.

Sophomore Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) won the 100 backstroke in 53.75 while senior Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) captured the 50 free in 20.71 seconds. Senior Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) took the 50 butterfly in a time of 23.27.

Junior Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) took first in 3-meter diving with 247.15 points.

Coppelli, junior Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist), Peter Larsen and Whitbeck opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:36.45. Courage, Whitbeck, freshman Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) and senior Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay (1:24.55).

Grove City will host Allegheny Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in non-conference action.
