Grove City downs Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 141-121 victory over visiting Westminster Tuesday night in a PAC dual meet at the Grove City College Pool.

Senior Caleb Courage (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) paced Grove City by earning three individual victories Tuesday night. Courage won the 100 backstroke in 51.65, then touched first in the 200 backstroke (1:54.90). He then concluded his night by winning the 200 individual medley in 1:55.63.

Senior Tim Whitbeck (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) swept the sprints for Grove City. He won the 50 free in 20.77 seconds, then posted a winning time of 47.23 in the 100 free. Whitbeck also anchored Grove City's victorious 200 free relay team as he, senior Peter Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist), freshman Nick Hamilton (Crescent, Pa./Moon) and senior Drew Snyder (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) closed the meet with a winning time of 1:26.02.

Larsen also won the 100 butterfly in 52.34 while freshman Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) won the 200 free in 1:44.61.

The all-time series between Grove City and Westminster is now tied 38-38. Grove City will visit Pitt-Bradford Friday night for a double-dual with Penn State Behrend at 5 p.m.
