Albertson earns Academic All-America

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Recent Grove City College graduate Richard Albertson (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) earned Third Team College Division At-Large Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN The Magazine Tuesday morning.

A four-year letterwinner in the butterfly and backstroke, Albertson helped the Grove City men's swimming and diving team capture its third consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title this season. He ranks ninth all-time at Grove City in the 200 butterfly (1:59.12) and 200 backstroke (1:58.49).

Albertson helped Grove City to a 49-8 dual-meet record during his career, including an 11-2 mark in 2009-10. As a freshman in 2006-07, he helped Grove City record a program-best 15 victories.

In the classroom, Albertson earned a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average while earning a bachelor of science degree in molecular biology. He is a Dean's List student who earned a spot on the PAC Academic Honor Roll. He has been inducted into Scroll and Key and the Beta Beta Beta biology honorary.

Albertson earned First Team Academic All-District in each of the past two seasons. He also earned Second Team Academic All-District in 2008.

Albertson is Grove City's 14th Academic All-American since 2002. Those 14 student-athletes have earned a total of 19 Academic All-America citations. Albertson is Grove City's 31st all-time CoSIDA Academic All-American. He is the second men's swimmer to earn Academic All-America at Grove City. Drew McKelvy earned Second Team Academic All-America as a senior in 2004.

The Men's At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo.
