Grove City edges Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-1 Friday night by pulling out a 137.5-123.5 victory over host Saint Vincent in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference members.

Grove City owned a three-point lead entering the meet-ending 200 free relay. The quartet of freshman Ian Smyth (Troy, Pa./Troy), junior Matt Armstrong (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville), freshman Seth Brooks (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and senior Seth Zimmerman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) sealed the win by winning the relay in 1 minute, 33.84 seconds.

Zimmerman also won the 100 free in 51.86 seconds while Brooks took the 200 in a time of 1:55.61. Freshman Adam Walker (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled) nailed down a pair of wins as he took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.64) and the 1650 (17:45.72).

Sophomore Matt Mahan (Butler, Pa./Knoch) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.12.

Grove City will compete in the Kenyon Quad Saturday at 12 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio. The Wolverines will face Kenyon, Case Western and Washington & Jefferson.
