Wolverines take two

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Nine different athletes earned wins Friday night, helping vault the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team to a pair of victories in a non-conference double dual meet at the James Longnecker Competition Pool. The Wolverines (9-2) downed Penn State Behrend 82-58 and secured a 121-16 decision over Pitt-Bradford.

Senior diver Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) established a new Grove City record on the 1-meter board by accumulating 303.90 points during his six dives. That broke the record of 303.05 set by national champion Chris Van De Mark in 1981. Grubbs also won 3-meter diving with 266.15 points.

Two Grove City swimmers also earned two victories each. Sophomore Josh Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) won the 200 free in 1 minute, 49.39 seconds. He then captured the 100 butterfly in 54.26 seconds.

Freshman Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 50 free in 22.22 and then prevailed in the 100 backstroke (56.87).

Junior Bennett Keefer (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.35 while senior Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) won the 100 free in 50.03 seconds. Senior Rich Albertson (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) captured the 200 backstroke in 2:04.31.

Three freshmen also earned wins for the Wolverines. Jon Suchin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) won the 200 butterfly (2:04.62), Adam Walker (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled) took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.50) and Alex Brown (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled) won the 500 (5:05.06).

The sweep clinches Grove City's 59th consecutive winning season. Grove City will go for its 18th 10-win season Saturday as the Wolverines host Wooster at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
