Grove City tops Wooster for 10th win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 10-2 overall Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines earned a 172-122 victory over visiting Wooster (6-4) in a non-conference dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.

Four Grove City athletes earned multiple individual victories Saturday. Senior diver Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) swept the 1- and 3-meter competitions for the Wolverines. He won 1-meter diving with 275.50 points, then prevailed on the 3-meter board with 263.85 points.

Sophomore Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) swept the butterfly and also posted the top time in the 400 individual medley. Bowser won the 100 butterfly in 53.07 and took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.01. He also posted a time of 4:18.11 in the 400 IM on an exhibition basis.

Sophomore Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) won the 100 free in 48.39 seconds and also captured the 200 free in 1:45.56. Meanwhile, senior Lincoln Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) swept the breaststroke races for Grove City. He won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.25 and took first in the 200 in 2:14.10.

Junior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) won the 100 backstroke in 54.24 seconds.

Coppelli, Bowser, sophomore Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and junior Dan Gummel (Springfield, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:37.26. Gummel, Coppelli, Gagliardo and freshman Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) closed the meet with a best time of 1:27.44 in the 200 free relay.

Grove City will visit Presidents' Athletic Conference archrival Westminster Thursday at 6 p.m.
