Wolverines top Westminster, 171-126

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned a 171-126 win over host Westminster Thursday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Hummel Field House. Grove City is now 2-0 in the conference and 11-2 overall.

Senior Kyle Grubbs (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls), sophomore Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) and freshman Alex Mathews (York, Pa./Spring Grove) all notched two wins for the Wolverines. Grubbs won 1-meter diving with 274.60 points and also prevailed on the 3-meter board with a score of 233.95.

Gagliardo won the 100 free in 48.36 seconds and also took first in the 50 free (22.44). Mathews, meanwhile, swept the distance events. He won the 500 in 4:52.22 and posted a victorious time of 10:03.52 in the 1000.

Also for the Wolverines, junior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) won the 100 backstroke in 55.14 seconds while freshman Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 200 free in 1:47.36. Sophomore Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.40.

Grove City will conclude dual-meet competition Saturday against visiting Bethany. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
