Wolverines top Kenyon, Case

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team improved to 4-1 Saturday afternoon by sweeping a non-conference tri-meet with Kenyon and Case Western in the James E. Longnecker Pool. Grove City earned a 178-99 win over Kenyon and a 192-95 victory over Case Western Reserve.

Junior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) paced Grove City by picking up three individual wins. He won the 200 butterfly in 1 minute, 58.32 seconds and then won the 100 butterfly in 52.87 seconds. Bowser capped the day by winning the 200 individual medley in 1:58.02.

Junior Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) recorded two victories in the sprint events. He won the 50 free in 21.80 seconds and then won the 100 free in 47.66.

Sophomore Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 200 free (1:44.83) while senior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) prevailed in the 100 backstroke (53.81). Sophomore Alex Mathews (York, Pa./Spring Grove) captured the 200 backstroke in 1:57.65.

Junior Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.47).

Grove City capped the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:27.14 as Fairchild, Gagliardo, senior Nate Nielsen (Houston, Texas/Lutheran South) and senior Dan Gummel (Springfield, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian) combined for the win.

Grove City will host its annual Winter Invitational December 3-4.
