Wolverines competing at Kenyon
GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team is in sixth place at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational after the second of three days of competition. Grove City owns 167 team points. Penn leads the way with 924 points, followed by Kenyon with 775.5.
Junior Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) led Grove City Friday by finishing fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.77 seconds. That time provisionally qualifies Beckner for the NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry), senior Nate Nielsen (Houston, Texas/Lutheran South), senior Dan Gummel (Springfield, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian) and junior Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) took seventh in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:25.27.
Beckner, senior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown), junior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Gagliardo recorded a time of 3:28.24 in the 400 medley relay, good for eighth place.
Saturday's competition begins at 9 a.m.
