Denison downs Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team dropped a 169-124 decision to visiting Denison, the nation's No. 3-ranked program, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.

Juniors Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) each recorded a pair of individual victories for the Wolverines (6-2 overall). Beckner won the 100 breaststroke in 58.61 seconds and then prevailed in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.40.

Bowser, meanwhile, swept the butterfly events. He won the 100 fly in 53.12 and took the 200 butterfly in 1:58.66.

Beckner, Bowser, senior Cam Coppelli (Guys Mills, Pa./Saegertown) and junior Kirk Gagliardo (Wadsworth, Ill./Warren Township) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:35.82.

Grove City will visit Wooster next Saturday in non-conference action.
