CMU tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team dropped a 180-109 decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual meet at James E. Longnecker Pool.

Three Grove City swimmers earned individual wins Saturday. Senior Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) won the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 0.47 seconds while junior Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 100 freestyle in 48.17 seconds. Senior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:58.61.

Bowser, Fairchild, senior Nick Hamilton (Crescent, Pa./Moon) and senior Kirk Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) closed the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:13.80.

Grove City (1-2) will face Case Western Reserve and Kenyon next Saturday in a tri-meet in Cleveland at 1 p.m.
