Grove City competing at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College men’s swimming and diving team is in fifth place after the first full day of competition at Kenyon College’s Total Performance Invitational. The Wolverines have accumulated 195 team points.

Penn leads the meet with 799 points, followed by Kenyon (681), Carnegie Mellon (303) and Davidson (295).

Senior Kirk Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) helped lead Grove City by taking fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1 minute, 42.45 seconds.

Sophomore Louis Gabriele (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco) took sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.88, one spot ahead of senior Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), who recorded a time of 58.97.

Senior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) took eighth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:06.44.

Bowser, senior Nick Hamilton (Crescent, Pa./Moon), junior Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) and Gagliardo earned seventh in the 800 free relay Thursday night with a time of 6:57.56.

Saturday’s action will begin with preliminaries at 10 a.m.
